Would you drink a good wine from a plastic cup? Exactly.
To fully appreciate the flavor of a high-quality mezcal, serve it in traditional gourd bowls called jícaras . These come from the calabash tree and are not only beautiful but also functional: Their larger surface area and slightly rough interior naturally intensify the flavor.
Tradition & Craftsmanship
In Mexico's mezcal regions, jicaras are the preferred drinking vessel—both for everyday use and for tastings at distilleries. Each bowl is hand-carved in the state of Oaxaca , often decorated with intricate reliefs depicting flora and fauna.
Unique – like your taste
The drinking opening (5–10 cm in diameter) allows you to fully absorb the aroma of the mezcal—a sensual experience with every sip. Thanks to their natural origin, the jícaras vary in color, shape, and size (approx. 20–130 ml). Each one is unique.
A simple ring of woven reed serves as the base. They're also a visual highlight—whether for mezcal, tequila, or other special drinks.
Important NOTE:
Please note: These natural variations are not a defect, but part of the authentic charm. Before first use, the shells should be briefly moistened and allowed to swell. Initially, small drops may appear on the base or sides—this is normal! The pores of the bottle gourd will close over time.
