Jícara drinking bowl | calabash
ould you drink a fine wine from a plastic cup? Exactly.
For the full flavor development of a high-quality Mezcal, you should serve it in traditional pumpkin bowls. These bowls are made from the fruit shell of the calabash tree. Their larger surface area compared to a shot glass and slightly rough interior enhance the taste while drinking.
The wide drinking opening, ranging from 5 to 10 cm, allows the fragrance of the agave spirit to envelop your entire face. Visually, these vessels celebrate the moment of enjoyment. Handcrafted in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, they are adorned with reliefs depicting various animal and plant motifs.
A braided reed ring is included for setting the bowl down. As a natural product, there may be slight variations in color and shape, making each piece a unique item. These stylish drinking vessels are also perfect for enjoying Tequila or other beverages.
Note for our customers: The Jícaras come in different sizes and shapes with a capacity of about 20 - 130 ml and diameters ranging from 5 to 10 cm. These natural variations make each bowl a unique piece. Please consider these characteristics before purchasing to fully appreciate the uniqueness and individuality of each bowl.
Before use, you should moisten the bowls briefly to let them swell. You might notice tiny drops on the walls or bottom of the Jícara cup at first. This is normal and does not affect its function. Gourds are porous, and it takes some time for the pores to close. If you find the bowl too moist initially, you can place it on a small plate.
For cleaning, please use only lukewarm water without any cleaning agents. Wipe with a dry cloth afterward or let it dry near a heater or in the sun.
